Joining the Library
How to Get a Library Card
Library card applications are available at the Circulation Desk. Patrons 14 and over must show one valid proof of residency (must have patron’s name and Hodgkins address.)
Examples of items showing proof of residency are:
- Valid Driver’s License, or
- Valid State ID or Matricula Consular, or
- Recently Delivered bill (not telephone), or
- Lease, or
- Bank Statement
Please note: For children aged 13 years and under, a parent or legal guardian must produce their own valid identification. The parent’s signature is required to show acceptance of responsibility.
Non-Resident Library Card
Patrons who live outside of our District and who do not pay Hodgkins Public Library taxes, must purchase a non-resident library card (according to Illinois Statutes). The fee for this card covers all members of the immediate family and is good for one year. Cardholders have full privileges at the Hodgkins Public Library, and they are able to use the card at other libraries in Illinois. This fee is calculated annually in May using the tax system based on your property’s EAV, whether you rent or own, and the current tax rate.
